Sand Play Therapy

Sand Play Therapy is a therapeutic approach used to support children, young people and adults to help increase emotional expressions of inner feelings through non-verbal communication. This can be beneficial when working with psychological distress from past experiences such as trauma, abuse and PTSD and can also be therapeutic to work through emotions and anxieties.
Using sand as a form of therapy is based on the belief that if a counsellor is able to provide a safe space for a client, they will be able to use the sand tray to create solutions to their problems on their own.

Sand Play Therapy works by looking at symbolic or metaphoric meanings to the arrangement pattern and the creation of a scene within the sand.   The client is able to create a 'play world' that reflects some aspect of real people and real experiences within their own lives, while the therapist observes the choice and arrangement of toys without interruption, allowing the client to find answers within themselves.
